Large lots, huge houses, and horse country are words typically used to describe one of Montgomery County's most affluent communities. In the 1930's some wealthy professionals sought out a place to hunt "English-style" as the District and its close in suburbs were already too dense for this activity. In Potomac they found beautiful and cheap acreage. I the 1920's the start of the grand estates building with Lyman Kendall's mansion and then Marwood (now owned by Ted Leonsis) was the start of castle building. Today it is one of the most affluent Montgomery County communities. It has top rated schools, abundant parks and the average cost of housing was nearly $1,100,000. CNN Money rated it #1 Wealthiest towns with a population over 25,000 and in 2014 Nerdwallet.com rated it #2 most educated places in America.
